Join Kelly as she counts down her favourite history, mythology retelling and historical fiction books of 2021. Kelly's top five book recommendations for 2021 include some books we've mentioned on the channel before and some you may not have heard of before. At number five there is Sex and Sexuality in Ancient Rome by L.J Trafford, a whistlestop tour through everything you need to know about the debauchery of Ancient Rome and some of its Emperors. Number four is Egyptian Mythology: A Traveller's Guide From Aswan to Alexandria by Garry Shaw, a tour down the Nile without even leaving your home.

Number three is the stunningly illustrated The Greek Vase: Art of the Storyteller by John H. Oakley, a book that will tell you all you need to know about the making, designing and functions of Ancient Greek Pottery, as well as the people who made them and decorated them thousands of years ago. Number two is the mythology retelling Ariadne by Jennifer Saint, a beautifully written story highlighting the lives of Ariadne, her sister Phaedra and the tales you may know including the Minotaur, Daedalus, Theseus and Dionysus. Make sure to keep your eyes open for her Saint's new book Elektra, coming later this year!

Kelly's number one read of 2021 was The Wolf Den by Elodie Harper, a wonderful book that follows the life of Amara, a prostitute living in ancient Pompeii. With the second book in the trilogy, The House With The Golden Door coming out this year, now is the perfect time to pick up this stunning historical fiction read.
