The Trinity test was the first detonation of a nuclear weapon on July 16, 1945 in the Jornada del Muerto desert in New Mexico. The scientific director and the military head of the Manhattan project J. Robert Oppenheimer and General Leslie Groves, were present on the site with Ken Bainbridge, James Conant, Ed Teller, Enrico Fermi and Hans Bethe who oversaw the test from Los Alamos.
