Lloyd Tilghman was a Confederate general during the American Civil War, playing significant roles at the Battle of Fort Henry on 06 February 1862 and, shortly after, at the Battle of Fort Donelson on 16 - 18 February, both of which were defeats for the Confederate army.
After the latter, Tilghman was subsequently taken prisoner, where he remained until later in the year when he was exchanged for a Union general. He played a further role in the war at the Battle of Champion's Hill on 16 May 1863, where he was fatally struck in the chest by a shell fragment.
