The Gun-Boat Attack on the Water Batteries of Fort Donelson, wood carving print by an unknown artist based on a sketch by Alexander Simplot, 15 March 1862.

The wood carving print shows a scene from the Battle of Fort Donelson, during the American Civil War. Union ironclad gunboats and a converted riverboat attacked the Confederate held Fort Donelson, shown here flying the Confederate flag. This initial attack by the Union gunboats on 14 February 1862 was unsuccessful, although Union forces ultimately captured the fort two days later and secured victory. The wood carving print was originally published in the American political magazine Harper's Weekly.
