Carus (Artistic Facial Reconstruction)
Carus (282-283 CE) became Roman emperor after the murder of Probus in 282 CE. He paid little heed to the Roman Senate and campaigned vigorously on Rome’s borders before dying within a year of becoming emperor. Carus died while waging war on the Sassanian Empire, according to some accounts due to being struck by lightning. During his reign, he named his sons Carinus and Numerian as his co-emperors and successors.
Pictured alongside the reconstruction is a bust of Carus from the Archaeological Museum of Ostia.
