Carinus (Artistic Facial Reconstruction)
Carinus (r. 283-285 CE) ruled jointly with his brother Numerian. Although he successfully quieted civil unrest and small-scale invasions, Roman historians painted him out to be an amoral hedonist. After his death, his reputation and memory was destroyed by Diocletian, who succeeded him as Roman emperor.
Pictured alongside the reconstruction is a bust of Carinus from the Centrale Montemartini Museum.
