Numerian (Artistic Facial Reconstruction)
Numerian (r. 282-284 CE) was a competent and learned Roman emperor, who has left a better reputation than his brother Carinus. Both Numerian and Carinus focused on securing the Roman Empire, inside and out, but Numerian was also a man of letters. By 284 CE, Numerian had developed an eye disease and his health was degrading; he died while travelling on the road that year.
Pictured alongside the reconstruction are the portraits used as references, including a possible bust of Numerian from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, a coin portrait of Numerian, as well as de-aged portraits of his father and brother.
