Michael Goodyear

Michael Goodyear

Biography

Michael has had a strong interest in history since learning about Ancient Egypt in middle school. Although he studied the slightly later Byzantine Empire at the University of Chicago, he also served as a docent for several years at the University of Chicago's Oriental Institute. His primary areas of history are the medieval Balkans, the Middle East, and medieval Europe.

His main interests relate to the interactions between different peoples in historical societies and the importance of history for crafting modern nations and political realities. He hopes his contributions to AHE will encourage an interest in history in others as well.

Education

  • A.B., History and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, University of Chicago
