Millard Fillmore was the thirteenth president of the United States. He was born on 07 January 1800, in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, and he led a varied professional life, spending his early years working as a cloth maker's apprentice and within textile mills, before later becoming involved in law and politics.

He was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1832, and later elected vice president on 05 March 1849. The following year, he assumed the presidency after his predecessor, President Zachary Taylor, suddenly died in office. Fillmore served as president until 04 March 1853.

Fillmore spent his time post-presidency in Buffalo, New York, where he continued to be a recognised civic and cultural figure, and he died on 08 March 1874 of a stroke at the age of 74.
