Ören, a historic coastal settlement in Burhaniye, Balıkesir, Türkiye, stands on the site of the ancient city of Adramytteion. According to local legend, a fisherman once saw a mermaid appearing in the moonlit waters of Ören and fell deeply in love with her; unable to be reunited with her, he eventually disappeared into the sea. The story has become part of the local heritage of Ören, and the mermaid statue recalls this local legend.
