Aurelian (Artistic Facial Reconstruction)
Aurelian (r. 270-275 CE) served under Gallienus and Claudius Gothicus before being elevated to the title of Roman emperor. He was one of the most capable emperors of the Crisis of the Third Century, and he managed to recover the provinces which Rome had lost in the reigns of his predecessors. Aurelian was also an active administrator who reformed the economy and punished corruption. Despite his successes in restoring the Roman Empire, he was assassinated by the Praetorian Guard.
Pictured alongside the reconstruction are two probable busts of Aurelian.
