Claudius Gothicus (Artistic Facial Reconstruction)
Claudius Gothicus (r. 268-270 CE) was proclaimed Roman emperor after the death of Gallienus. He had a brief reign, during which time he enjoyed victories against the Goths and the Alemanni, a Germanic tribe. Claudius Gothicus planned to reconquer the provinces which had seceded from Rome before he succumbed to plague in 270 CE.
Pictured alongside the reconstruction is a portrait of Claudius Gothicus from the German Archaeological Institute.
