Gallienus (Artistic Facial Reconstruction)
Gallienus (r. 253-268 CE) was a capable emperor who reformed the Roman army and repelled invasions by the Sassanian Empire and the Goths. However, his reign also saw several provinces including Roman Gaul, Hispania, Britain and Palmyra secede from the Roman Empire, and he was unable to quell the unrest which characterized the times. He was eventually assassinated in 268 CE.
Pictured alongside the reconstruction is a bust of Gallienus from the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek.
