The North African city of Carthage fought a series of wars against Syracuse in Sicily. Carthage issued Greek-style coins to pay their army. The inscription in Punic reads "in the land (of Sicily)". Greek coin inscriptions usually name only the city or people who issued the coin. Silver coin Carthage, minted in Sicily, circa 400-300 BCE. From Sicily. (The British Museum, London).
