At the Battle of Fort Henry on 06 February 1862 during the American Civil War, Union forces, under the command of A. H. Foote, attacked the Confederate held fort with iron clad ships. It resulted in a victory for the Union and carries naval historical significance as the first time iron clad ships were used in battle.
