Major General Sterling Price, watercolour painting by an unknown artist, circa 1860 to circa 1869.
At the beginning of the American Civil War, Sterling Price was given command of the Missouri State Guard, and he was a Confederate ally who contributed to the Confederate victory at the Battle of Wilson's Creek. Price notably became a major general in the Confederate States Army in March 1862, where he played a role in a number of further actions throughout the war. Price later died in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1867.
