Claiborne Fox Jackson was the governor of Missouri during the American Civil War, and although Missouri was a neutral border state at the beginning of the war, Jackson was strongly sympathetic to the Confederate cause, collaborating with Confederate generals during the war. Jackson eventually died in Little Rock, Arkansas, in December 1862.
