Isis, Roman-Egyptian Panel
The Egyptian goddess Isis was worshipped by the Greeks as early as the 4th century BCE. From Greece, her worship spread to Rome where she took on the roles of other gods like Venus, Hera, Demeter, and Mercury. Eventually, Isis became one of the most popular gods in the Roman Empire. She was often depicted with various Egyptian attributes such as a uraeus or a sistrum (rattle). 2nd century CE. Egypt. (J. Paul Getty Museum)
