There is a cuneiform inscription on the right shoulder/upper arm on this calcite figure of a man. The text hasn't been deciphered yet, but probably it bears the dedicator's name. This is a votive statue of a bearded man, dating back to the early Dynastic Period, circa 2600 BCE. The nose might well have been attached separately. There is a cuneiform doodle at the back of the statue (not shown), which appears to be added later, during the first millennium BCE. This may well indicate that this statue was appreciated for a long time! From Mesopotamia, modern-day Iraq. (The British Museum, London).
