This marble votive mace head was inscribed with a cuneiform text. The text says that this mace head is a dedication on behalf of Shulgi, a king of Ur III, to the god Meslamtaea, or Nergal. From Mesopotamia, modern-day Iraq. Neo-Sumerian Period, reign of Shulgi, 2094-2047 BCE. (The British Museum, London).
