Trinity Test Explosion, 1945

A photograph of the 'Trinity' atomic bomb test at a remote spot in the desert near Alamogordo, New Mexico on 16 July 1945. The test was part of the top secret Manhattan Project. The explosion was equal to 18,600 tons of TNT and it destroyed all plant and animal life within a mile radius.
