Depicted here is John Cabell Breckinridge, who, after the Democratic Party fractured during the nominating period into competing conventions, became the candidate in the US presidential election of 1860 representing the pro-slavery Southern Democrats. He would join the ranks of the secessionist forces after Lincoln's win, eventually fleeing abroad when the Confederacy collapsed in 1865.
