This is an image of the city of Amasia with the royal tombs of the Pontic rulers from this region in the cliffs behind the town. The dynasty entombed here were originally Iranian, and the influence of rock-carved tombs such as those of the Achaemenids at Naqsh-e Rostam (burial-place of Darius II, Artaxerxes II, Darius the Great, Xerxes I) is clear.
