"Come, let us take counsel together," poster by Elton C. Fax, 1944.

In this NAACP poster advertising a Wartime Conference for Total Peace, a hand grips the neck of Jim Crow, a bird with the tattered flags of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan shackled to its talons, symbolically linking the struggle against totalitarianism abroad to the fight for equality at home. The American South's Jim Crow laws enshrined racial segregation and the disenfranchisement and disadvantaging of Black Americans.
