View of the entrance to the Arsenal, oil on canvas painting by Canaletto, c. 1732.

This waterfront view shows the southern entrance to the Arsenal. The famous Piraeus Lions are featured in this land entrance to the left and showcased Venice's dominion over parts of Greece. The towers in the water entrance are a symbol of Venice's towering maritime power, industrial ingenuity, and skill.
