A c. 1916 cartoon showing the Russian self-styled monk and faith healer Grigori Rasputin (1869-1916) who gained influence over the family of Tsar Nicholas II (reign 1894-1917) and his wife Empress Alexandra Feodorovna (1872-1918). The Russian press printed scandalous stories about Rasputin and ridiculed what was considered his excessive influence over the royal family, particularly during the First World War (1914-18).
