This infographic illustrates the Causes of the American Revolution (1765-1789) rooted in a growing sense of American identity and dissatisfaction with British policies. The colonies, long accustomed to self-governance under the system of salutary neglect, resented Britain's abrupt shift to stricter control following colonial wars that had left Britain heavily in debt. Efforts to recoup these losses through taxation and trade restrictions clashed with colonial demands for representation. At the same time, disputes over westward expansion, such as the Proclamation of 1763 and a series of punitive measures, including the Intolerable Acts, exacerbated tensions. These policies, conflicts over governance, and escalating confrontations created deep divisions that ultimately led to the Revolutionary War and the colonies’ push for independence.
