An illustration by N.C. Wyeth of Robinson Crusoe which appeared on the dust jacket a 1920 edition of Daniel Defoe’s novel Robinson Crusoe, first published in 1719. The character was inspired by Alexander Selkirk, marooned on the Juan Fernández Islands from 1704 to 1709.
