A photorealistic representation of what the Roman emperor Caligula (r. 37-41 CE) may have looked like. Pictured alongside the reconstruction are the busts and statuary used as references. Louvre bust (top left) is the primary reference. The restored traces of polychromy from the New Carlsberg Gylototek is used as a reference for skin tone. The other references are the Met Museum bust (bottom left) and the Museum of Rome bust (bottom right). Based on contemporary and near contemporary descriptions, as well as archaeological evidence. Made using Photoshop and Artbreeder, a neural net tool.
