The Arnolfini Wedding oil on oak panel painting by the Netherlandish Renaissance artist Jan van Eyck (c. 1390-1441). Created in Bruges in 1434 it shows the cloth merchant Giovanni Arnolfini with his wife Giovanna Cenami. The artist seems just as interested in displaying his skill at persepctive as he is in portraying the two newly-weds. Two small figures can be seen in the mirror who may be the witnesses at the wedding. Note the artist has put his bold signature centrally and above the mirror and not, as was traditional, in a corner of the picture.
