Daily life in ancient Egypt was lived with an awareness of the gods and the understanding that they had given the people the gift of the most perfect place on earth. Ancient Egyptians worked at their jobs and performed community service for the ruler but also enjoyed recreation in the form of sports, games, and festivals.

Although the ancient Egyptians are often described as death-obsessed for their seeming preoccupation with the afterlife, their vision of the realm after death was simply a mirror image of the one they had lived and enjoyed so much they wanted it to continue eternally.

This collection presents highlights of everyday life in ancient Egypt but should be understood as a brief survey rather than an in-depth examination.
