Saint Margaret of Scotland (c. 1046-1093) was born as a princess of the House of Wessex. After her father, Edward the Exile (d. 1057), was exiled Margaret and her family moved to Hungary where she was raised in the Hungarian court. Raised in the Roman Catholic faith, Margaret was very devout. Through her marriage to Malcolm III of Scotland (r. 1058-1093), Margaret became Queen of Scotland. As queen, Margaret was successful in introducing Anglo-Saxon traditions and the Roman Catholic faith into Scotland, and this led to her being made a saint by the Catholic Church in 1250.
