The Beach at Trouville by Monet
An 1870 oil on canvas, The Beach at Trouville, by Claude Monet (1840-1926), the French impressionist painter. Trouville in Normandy was a popular and fashionable resort. The work shows the artist's developing impressionist style and the particles of sand in the paint show that it was painted en plein air. (Wadsworth Atheneum, Connecticut, USA)
