Biography

Livia Huoponen is a recently graduated Master of Arts in History from the University of Helsinki, with a strong academic background in Finnish social and cultural history. Huoponen previously completed a Bachelor’s degree in History at the University of Helsinki, with additional studies in Cultural Studies and Social Change. Her Master’s thesis focused on the history of Finnish childhood, approached through the perspectives of the history of experience and emotions.

In 2026, Huoponen published “En luule olevani kovin ruma” – koulutyttöjen ajatuksia itsestään sekä maailmasta 1920- ja 1930-lukujen Suomessa ("I don’t think I’m very ugly" – Schoolgirls’ Thoughts About Themselves and the World in Finland in the 1920s and 1930s) in the website "Lapsuuden historiaa". The article is based on research conducted for her master’s thesis and examines Finnish schoolgirls’ perceptions of themselves and their surroundings in the 1920s and 1930s.

Her historical interests include archival research, the study of personal experiences and everyday life, and the use of historical sources to explore the perspectives of individuals in the past. She also pursues genealogical research as a hobby.
