Antonios Gavriilidis

Biography

I was born in Thessaloniki, Central Macedonia, Greece, where I studied Archaeology and History of Art at the Faculty of Philosophy, Dept. of History and Archaeology from 2009 to 2013. From 2013 to 2016, I pursued postgraduate studies in Classical Archaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and completed my M.A. thesis on the topic: Warrior Burials in Ancient Greece: The phenomenon of arms as grave goods from the Iron Age to the Hellenistic Era. Since 2019, I have been conducting my Ph.D. research at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on the following topic: Farmsteads and Rural Fortresses in Ancient Macedonia: The organization of the countryside from the Classical Era to the Roman Republican Era (4th - 1st cen. B.C.).

I held the position of the Excavation Supervisor and Research Associate of the Educational and Systematic Excavation at the Acropolis and the Hellenistic City Fortifications of Vergina (2013-2018), conducted by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. I was also employed as a Temporary Archaeologist for the Ephorate of Antiquities of Florina (2016), the Ephorate of Antiquities of Kozani (2017), the Ephorate of Antiquities of Heraklion (2018), the Ephorate of Antiquities of Ioannina (2020), the Ephorate of Antiquities of Arta (2020), the Ephorate of Antiquities of Lasithi (2021 - 2022) and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Rhodopi (2022 - 2023). Furthermore, I have participated in the project ''Enrichment of the Digital Collections of Mobile Monuments and Development of a New Information System for the Directorate of the National Archive of Monuments (DEAM)'', on behalf of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Pieria (2017).

In addition to the above, I am also a member of Europa Nostra - The European Voice of Civil Society committed to Cultural Heritage, European Students’ Association for Cultural Heritage (ESACH), Europeana Network Association (ENA), Digital Humanities Lab “Psifis” of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Diazoma Association.
