Camille Pissarro

Definition

Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) was an impressionist painter based in France who focussed on landscapes but frequently changed his style and subjects. He was an instrumental figure in the new art movement of the 19th century, organising independent exhibitions and inspiring contemporaries like Paul C├ęzanne (1839-1906) and a whole younger generation of artists from Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) to Henri Matisse (1869-1954).
