This life-sized statue shows Ramesses III seated. He ruled Egypt for 32 years and is often regarded as the last major pharaoh of ancient Egypt. Although it was discovered broken and defaced in a secondary location, it was likely first set up in a Canaanite temple at Beth Shean. The statue may have served as a tool of Egyptian propaganda, asserting authority at a time when Egypt’s control over Canaan was weakening.
