The cult of the Egyptian goddess Isis first spread to Rome during the Hellenistic period and it enjoyed popularity until the adoption of Christianity throughout the Roman Empire in the 4th century CE. This mural from a temple to Isis in Herculaneum is dated between 62 - 79 CE and depicts Isiac priests carrying out a water ritual in front of a gathering of devotees. First discovered in 1765 CE, this mural is currently part of the collection of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Italy.
