Vadfradad I, King of Persis Download Full Size Image

This coin depicts Vadfradad I, king of Persis (Fars) in Southern Iran, who can be identified on both sided of the coin by his special headgear. On the back (this image), a figure holds up a royal headband (diadem) as a symbol of kingship behind the ruler. The winged figure above the temple symbolizes the glory of the king. Silver tetradrachm coin from Fars, circa 280 BCE. Vadfradad I was a son of Vahbarz; he and his successors were as sub-Parthian dynasts. From the Prideaux Collection. (The British Museum, London).
