The forum of Nicopolis ad Istrum, Bulgaria. The paved square was surrounded by an Ionic colonnade and contained pedestals for marble and bronze statues of emperors and members of the imperial family. Shops occupied its eastern and southern sides, while a large building on the north probably served as a civic basilica in Late Antiquity. The forum was situated slightly east of the city centre.
