Miklós Horthy Bust at Kenderes, photograph by Csanády, 2009.
Put up in his hometown of Kenderes in 1993, this bust of Miklós Horthy celebrated the return of his remains from Portugal and his role as leader of Hungary between 1920 and 1944. More than 10,000 people attended the ceremony welcoming his remains and paying homage to his leadership in turbulent times; meanwhile, protestors in Budapest decried the rehabilitation of his image, outraged at Horthy's authoritarianism and anti-Semitic policies.
