This portrait shows Frederick the Great in his childhood. He was the son of the then-Crown Prince of Prussia, Frederick William, and Sophia of Hanover. With the death of his grandfather early in his life, and the ascension of his father to the throne of Prussia, he was made crown prince at the age of 1.
