A portrait of Frederic Thesiger, better known as Lord Chelmsford (1827-1905), who was appointed to lead a punitive British expedition into the Zulu kingdom but infamously lost the Battle of Isandlwana on 22 January 1879, the first encounter of the Anglo-Zulu War.
