Queen's apartments at the Château de Chambord, photograph by Babeth Étiève-Cartwright, France, 30 October, 2025.
Before the royal wing of the Château de Chambord, was completed, this was most likely the bedroom of king Francis I of France (r. 1515- 1547). Then, in the 17th century, it became the bedroom of Maria Theresa of Spain (r. 1660-1683), wife of king Louis XIV of France (r. 1643-1715). The room is divided into two parts: one private area containing the queen's bed, and another public area where courtiers could watch her rise in the morning and retire for the night.
