Portrait of Catherine II of Russia (the Great) in officer's uniform. The German princess (born Princess Sophia Augusta Frederica of Anhalt-Zerbst) ruled Russia from 1762 to 1796 after overthrowing her husband Peter III and became one of Russia's most remarkable rulers.
