Heiress, businesswoman, writer, and philanthropist, Driscoll (1881-1945) became known as the "Savior of the Alamo" for her efforts in preserving and restoring the Alamo historic site, many structures of which were in disrepair at the time. Upon her death, her body was lain in state at the Alamo chapel before burial.
