Silver shilling from the Massachusetts Bay Colony by John Hull and Robert Sanderson, c. 1667 to c. 1682.

The Massachusetts Bay Colony mint, from which this stamped coin originates, was established to increase the availability of hard currency in the early years of the settlement. On the obverse is stamped “IN” and “MASATHVSETS,” as well as a central pine tree. The coins from the mint in this period were stamped “1652” (on the reverse, not pictured here) regardless of the actual year of issue.
