Frontal view of the Great Temple, a grand monumental complex that lies south of the colonnaded street at Petra (Jordan). The Great Temple is a rectangular complex with a Lower and an Upper Temenos. The Lower Temenos (sacred courtyard) was paved with hexagonal stones and enclosed on the east and west sides by triple colonnades that contained more than 100 columns. The Upper Temenos had a theatre-like structure (theatron), a semi-circular place of assembly with about 600 seats.
