American Sgt. Jasper raises the South Carolina flag over the Spring Hill redoubt during the assault on Savannah, 9 October 1779. Moments later, the British defenders of the redoubt opened fire, killing Jasper and forcing the Americans to withdraw. By an unknown author, c. 19th century.
