Egyptian Vessel with Galloping Horses Download Full Size Image

On this ceramic vessel, two piebald horses are depicted; they are galloping and harnessed. An ankh sign's hand grasps a was-scepter. Horses were introduced to Egypt by the Hyksos during the Second Intermediate Period, c 1780 BCE. From Egypt, precise provenance is unknown. New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, c. 1340 BCE. It is on display at the Neues Museum in Berlin.
